In IndexU, we usually put advertisement in the top or bottom of browse listing page. But one of our member member asked on how to put advertisement in the middle of the listings. A simple but interesting stuff, so here is how to do it.

The mods name probably a little bit confusing, but that is exactly what this mods do, redirecting to the correct detail page. In IndexU, we often use ‘link title’ as part of detail URL, sometimes it is also combined with ‘category name’ or ‘category path’ to build detail URL we want. There’s no problem here.

After the release of AJAX Rating Mods couple of months ago, we receive suggestion from our members to implement this mods in IndexU “Get Rated” section. So the site owner could place this widget in their site and allow its visitor to rate the site directly without leaving. The mods is available now, we hope it is useful for you.

This one is suggested by one of member here. The idea is to hide the payment gateway section when user choose free listing type, and only show them when paid listing selected. A simple but very useful suggestion, so we decide to implement this mods.

After we release a mods for adding RSS to detail page early in this month, one of our members asked for a mods that can check all links in IndexU database and try to lookup their RSS feed if available. The RSS feed then will be added in custom field that were used in our previous mods. This is very interesting idea, so we decide to build this mods first.

By default, IndexU links validation queue is using LIFO order. It means that the most recent submitted links will be shown first then the old one is shown next, so the latest submitted link mostly will get reviewed first. We are very uncomfortable with this behavior, and prefer FIFO order.

A couple months ago we release a “Adding RSS in Categories and Tags Page” mods. This one is the alternative, it is serving the same purpose but using the official webservice that provided by Yahoo. It is more advanced than the first one, since we add some additional option on this one.

This one is a request from one of our members here. IndexU has the capability to let users choose up to three categories when doing submission. But in the email that sent to users, it is only showing the main category, the additional categories do not show up there. So we’ll need to do a little tricks here.

Adding the exact detail URL in IndexU email is a little bit tricky. The <%$detail_page_url%> is only available in the HTML template but not in the email template, so we can not use it. Of course for detail URL we can use something like this : <%$site_url%>/detail.php?id=<%$link_id%>, but this is not what we want. We need the search engine friendly detail URL based on the mod_rewrite setting.

Usually search engine crawler checking your sitemap on their regular schedule. But you can also notify them when you update your sitemap using their ping service. So hopefully they’ll visit your site more often.
