Using Yahoo for Web Search

 Monday, September 24th, 2007
Mods Compatibility
IndexU 5.4.X
IndexU Deluxe

In the latest IndexU version (5.4.0), it is still using Google SOAP Search API for the “web search” feature. If you already have the “Google SOAP API Key”, then there will be no problem using this feature. But unfortunately Google no longer issuing new API keys since December 5, 2006.

So here I create an alternative version of “web search” feature that will use Yahoo service instead of Google. You can download the file here (you’ll need to login first). Unzip it and replace your search.php with this one. Remember to backup your original search.php first.

This new “web search” will need Yahoo Application ID.
You can get an Application ID from here : http://search.yahooapis.com/webservices/register_application

Once you have the Yahoo Application ID, go to your IndexU Admin Panel > Option > Setup, and replace the Google Web APIs License Key with your Yahoo Application ID.

Ok, I hope this mods will be useful for you.
